The Student Activities Board uses a committee system to plan, advertise and implement events for the entire campus and has six standing committees to which students can become members. Each committee (see below for descriptions) is responsible for a specific area of programming and is the basis of SAB's overall programming.
Students are highly encouraged to join open committees and attend committee meetings in order to share their ideas and input in planning and implementation of programs. Committee members participate in the programming process from beginning to end, from idea inception to event set-up, working the event, and breaking down the event. By participating on committees, students are ensuring that SAB is meeting the needs of the entire student population and that your voice is heard!
Under the direction of the director of student activities and Jaylon Lewis, committee chair, The Lady of the Bracelet (LOB) Committee is responsible for the planning and production of the Miss Northwestern Lady of the Bracelet Pageant. This includes everything from the recruiting of contestants, working with the Creative and Performing Arts Department, and preparing the crowned Miss Northwestern LOB to compete in the Miss Louisiana Scholarship Pageant.
The Concert Committee, lead by Maya Porter, is comprised of student leaders from across campus who come together to chose artist that will showcase at some point throughout the academic year. The committee is chosen by the Student Government Association and includes many different aspects of campus organizations.
Homecoming Committee, lead by Olivia Guidry, is responsible for planning themed festivities for the university’s homecoming week to include but aren’t limited to: kickoff party, lip-sync competition, 5k and bonfire, parade, pep rally and all other community and university events that deal with homecoming. This event director is also responsible for planning one small lagniappe event in the spring semester.
Fall Frenzy Committee, lead by Brea Housley, is responsible for planning various events to celebrate the fall semester. These events may include but aren’t limited to Halloween Carnival, Haunted House, Escape My Room, Dark Woods ticket giveaway, etc. This event director is also responsible for planning one small lagniappe event in the spring semester.
Main Event Committee, lead by Cylandria Clemons, is responsible for planning a major event in the Spring semester with a theme that focuses on games, music, and giveaways while staying true to its name. This event director is also responsible for planning one small lagniappe event in the fall semester.
Spring Fling Committee, lead by Elisabeth Perez, is responsible for planning a themed event that focuses around crawfish, novelties, and Spring Break. This event director is also responsible for planning one small lagniappe event in the fall semester.
Satellite Campus Committee, lead by Amyris Anderson, is responsible for providing activities, programs and events for students on the Leesville and Alexandria campus to enjoy. This event director is responsible for planning at least two satellite campus events per semester, one per each campus.
