Student Government Association


MEETINGS
All SGA meetings are weekly open and students are welcome to voice their concerns to 
their elected representatives. See student leadership in action as senators debate legislation for 
the benefit of the students and the university.

LEGISLATION
SGA operates through the use of legislation in conduct business. Legislation can be 
used to change university policy, express the opinion of students, or allocated funds.

FORUMS
SGA holds forums in order for students to voice concerns or receive information on any 
given subject affecting the university.

STUDENT FEES
The SGA oversees all student self-assessed fees and ensures that student money is 
spent in the manor approved by the Student Body. SGA also allocates some of these funds for the 
benefit of students, organizations, and the university.

STUDENT BODY ELECTIONS
SGA conducts elections so you can have a voice in electing your representatives, changing governing documents and fees, and selecting members of the Homecoming Honor Court and Mr. and Miss NSU.

MEET YOUR SENATOR DAY
This event is held each semester as a way for you to meet and discuss issues 
with your elected student representatives on the NSU campus.

LECTURE SERIES
The SGA sponsors several speakers each semester to enhance the student experience 
at NSU. Speakers range from celebrities, scholars, public officials, to topics like leadership, 
personal development, and diversity.

LEADERSHIP NSU
This conference is an exciting way for students to develop leadership skills
to better their organizations by having a professional student conference right here at NSU. 
Students and organizations can save on registration, hotels, and other costs by not
having to travel a conference of this quality. It is brought right here to campus for you.

SCANTRON GIVEAWAY
The SGA sponsors two free scantrons per day for students in the Academic Success Center in Watson Library.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELIEF FUND (ORF)
This fund exists in order to assist student organizations and university departments in travel to 
conferences, competitions, and other events. ORF will fund up to 50% of the cost of a trip. 
Applications are available online.

SGA LOANS
Having some financial difficulty? You are able to receive emergency loans through the 
Dean of Students’ Office sponsored by the SGA.

SGA GRANTS
Organizations may apply for funding of a special project or event. SGA may cover the 
entire cost or a portion of the cost. Applications are available online.

CLUB SPORTS FUNDING
Organizations classified as a club sport may seek funding for equipment, 
travel, and other items. This fund can also be used to enhance wellness on the campus through 
special projects.

PRESIDENTIAL INITIATIVES
These projects are designated by the Student Body President as being for  the benefit of the Student Body and university. They are approved by the Student Senate and are usually funded by the SGA or initiated by the SGA and may be a collaborative effort.
